Milorganite Product Details Milorganite has an earthy aroma when first applied, but the odor should dissipate within a few days. Rain or watering after application can help reduce the smell. Biosolids and Expiration Biosolids are residual microbes that have digested nutrients out of sewage waste streams. Milorganite has no expiration date and will work indefinitely if stored properly in a cool and dry area.
Application and Safety Milorganite can be applied on top of mulch, but it may take longer to work down into the soil. An alternative is to rake back the mulch, apply Milorganite, work it into the soil, and then return the mulch. If a dog eats Milorganite, it may experience discomfort, but it is not life-threatening.
